Muzaffarnagar. In a remarkable and humane effort to prevent repeated suicide incidents from the Ganga Canal bridge in Bhopa, Social worker Arvind Ahluwalia has taken a decisive step.
With the primary objective of safeguarding human lives, high iron mesh railings are being installed on both sides of the bridge to prevent people from jumping into the canal.
The Ganga Canal bridge in Bhopa has unfortunately witnessed several tragic incidents over time. Keeping public safety and social responsibility at the forefront, Arvind Ahluwalia initiated this protective measure at his own effort, setting an inspiring example of citizen-led social service.
The initiative has received strong support and praise from local residents, eminent citizens, as well as police and administrative officials. Rishipal Singh, President of the Gram Sudhar Seva Samiti, described the effort as a truly commendable step taken in public interest, stating that it has the potential to save many precious lives.
SDM Jansath Rajkumar Bharti said that installing iron railings on both sides of the bridge will significantly reduce suicide attempts by jumping into the Ganga Canal. He termed Arvind Ahluwalia a socially conscious and responsible citizen whose efforts deserve recognition.
Echoing similar sentiments, CO Bhopa Devvrat Vajpayee stated that this safety arrangement is a crucial step toward preventing suicide incidents at the bridge and called the initiative highly praiseworthy.
Sharing the inspiration behind his work, social worker Arvind Ahluwalia said that he drew motivation for social service from Dr. Dhruvpal Singh, Special Secretary at the Uttar Pradesh Secretariat in Lucknow. Since then, he has been consistently involved in various public welfare activities with a firm belief that timely and practical measures can save lives and bring meaningful change to society.
The ongoing installation of safety railings on the Bhopa Ganga Canal bridge has emerged as a powerful symbol of social responsibility and compassion. Local residents view this initiative not just as an infrastructure improvement, but as a strong message that collective awareness and individual initiative can together prevent tragedies and protect human life.
